The South African HORRORFEST is the longest running event of its kind on the continent, including movies, short films, literature, music, live soundtrack perfromance, Halloween fun etc.
In 2004 Paul Blom and Sonja Ruppersberg decided to rectify the issue of the absence of a dedicated Horror event in South Africa. The first S.A. HorrorFest (then also known as the Horror Festacular) launched in 2005.Besides being a Horror / Chiller / Thriller film festival (screening feature films and short films from around the world),from the start it made a point of expanding into a broad Halloween event by incorporatingnew live soundtrack performances to classic silent films by The Makabra Ensemble, the Bloody Parchment literary chapter, Halloween dress-up competition, a night market and more.
